Cycling Training Camp: The Agoura Hills

Part 2 of our training camp was located in the Agoura Hills, which would be our base for the remainder of the training week.   We stayed at a motel called the Goodnite Inn. It was a great location, and very central for most of the rides, however I think it could have been cleaner. For the price, it was a good deal and overall I was happy with it. Some friends rented a close by Air bnb in Topanga about a 20-minute drive away, which was secluded and had a great ambience. I would prefer booking something like this…

Cycling Training Camp: Gibraltar Road

Some friends of mine head to Santa Barbara and the Agoura Hills near Santa Monica and Malibu, each year for a cycling training week. When this was first mentioned, I knew very little about the cycling routes around this region, however both Santa Barbara and the Agoura Hills boast endless routes and wonderful scenery for a training camp.   The setting in this region is ideal as you can set up a base and bike several excellent routes, experiencing new climbs and scenery each day with great weather. Better yet, you are close to civilization in Santa Barbara and near…

Travel Diary: A Cycling Trip in Corsica

Three years ago, while streaming the Tour de France from my laptop computer at home, something caught my full attention. Sweeping aerial views took me by surprise, piquing my curiosity. I had never really forgotten how interesting and intriguing it looked, or the amazing cycling routes with lots and lots of hills. Three years later,…

From Injury to Ironman: The Road Ahead

Every journey has a beginning. I believe every challenging journey provides and opportunity for growth. This is my journey from labral repair surgery to the major lifetime goal of becoming an Ironwoman. Hopefully documenting my recovery and experience, will help other cyclists or athletes going through the same. What is a labral tear? It all started back in March. I was ramping up training for the no longer existent Wildflower triathlon located in California, when it screeched to an abrupt halt during a speed workout at the track. I took off for my first stride, prior to our main workout…

Product Review: Specialized Power Expert Saddle

Specialized offers a wide variety of road bike saddles. Actually they have so many, you may even feel a bit lost deciding which one is right for you. Finding a great saddle is one of the most important things you can do to customize and tailor your bike fit to your body. It becomes even more important if you will be riding long distances, and increasing training efforts. Not only your behind, but your whole body will thank you. After realizing that the width of my saddle may be too small, it came time to try and find something right….

Escape: Cycling Ebbett’s Pass in the Sierra Nevada

California has a longstanding reputation as a cyclist’s haven. Its unique rolling and rocky terrain has a perennial allure, and over the years, it has slowly crystallized into one of the world’s greatest cycling hubs.ย  What lends such mystique to this breezy, ocean-side state? The reasons, of course, are endless. But one particular reason stands out: The mountains. Mountains come in all shapes and sizes, but Ebbettโ€™s Pass, in the northern Sierra Nevada range, has to be one of the greatest cycling climbs. It’s truly awe-inspiring. Here are the details: Distance: The climb itself is 13 miles (20 km) Elevation…
